PRACTICAL ADVICE:

RUNNING A BUSINESS IN ANOTHER COUNTRY

In 5751, an Argentinian couple asked the Rebbe for advice. A non- Jewish acquaintance had offered them the opportunity to join him in opening a large golf store in Miami. Should they accept the proposal?

The Rebbe replied (in English): “In general it is not advisable to have a business in one place and to live in another place, especially in another country. And especially in our times, with all the change in [the] economic situation, especially in Argentina and South America, it is not wise to have your husband’s business in United States and to live in Argentina. If you can combine the two things together, then you will discuss it with knowledgeable people. If not, then it is advisable to start making plans how to be in the same place as the business.”

 SHLICHUS OF A BUSINESSMAN

Hashem gave each Jew a shlichus to fulfill in this world. One person’s role is to be involved in business, another’s mission is    to study Torah, and so on. Within each category, each individual person has a specific shlichus to accomplish. Hashem leads each person to a certain place, because his unique shlichus can be fulfilled specifically in that location.
